Wizards & Angels

Third graders put on 3-D glasses and viewed and talked about Matisse's dancing figures in several of his pieces of art.  Students were told they needed to express "movement" with their figure. They chose which to create: a "wizard" or an "angel."  They used etching paper for their robes, line and design with sharpie markers on their backgrounds and borders.  Students used clay to create facial forms, and sharpies and paint to finish them.  Doll hair was applied with hot glue as a final touch.
